Scared of the Dentist?

I have worked with thousands of patients over the years who have had some level of dental fear. Patients can have generalized dental anxiety and/or specific fears about certain procedures, sounds, smells, and equipment.

This is a NORMAL reaction to invasive procedures, since the body wants to defend itself, even if the procedure is deeply needed. When the body is not able to defend itself, it can lead to a “freeze” response resulting in energy getting stored in neuromuscular systems and incomplete defensive responses. Together, we can release this energy and bring the system back to equilibrium using Somatic Experiencing®, mindfulness, and empathic exchanges.

After several concentrated trainings in Somatic Experiencing® (developed by Peter Levine), I offer individual sessions to help people work through:

  • Removing anxiety and fear about going to the dentist

  • Past dental trauma which has been stored in the body

  • Preparation for upcoming procedures

Dental procedures, especially performed when we are young, can leave us feeling helpless and dis-empowered.  This can lead to lasting patterns of avoidance and neglect for both ourselves and our children.  Receiving support through a holistic approach, incorporating mindfulness, S.E., and other modalities,  it is possible to feel free a spacious again in the medical and dental setting.
